The Way we Make Things is Broken
At Manufaktory, we aim to improve that. Sustainability isn’t a buzzword to make you feel good - it’s our guiding star.
We didn’t start Manufaktory to slap “eco” on the box and call it a day. We're tired of watching good design get buried under poor decisions - cheap parts, planned obsolescence, excessive packaging, and zero end-of-life consideration. Where a push for better margin and the next quarters KPIs means more absolute crap on shelves and in landfill.
The current system simply isn't working - not just financially, but environmentally. So we're building something different. We don't claim to have all the answers, but we believe change needs to start somewhere. We're beginning small, with thoughtfully designed objects, and documenting our journey so others can learn alongside us.
Sustainability runs through everything we do at Manufaktory. We design products to last, to be repaired, and to be reused. Are we fully sustainable? Not yet. Any company claiming to be "100% sustainable" at this point isn't looking hard enough. We're honest about where we are, and committed to continuous improvement.
We're taking a fresh look at the entire process - from material selection to design for disassembly to packaging and shipping. We question "it's always been done this way" thinking at every turn. When we can avoid waste, we do. When we can't, we find the best available alternative. It's not perfect - but it's authentic.
We’re working toward full circularity: every component in our product should have a second life. That means fewer mixed materials, fewer compromises, and more testing. It's not always the fastest or cheapest approach, but if the result is better for you and the planet - we’re okay with that.
Our goal isn’t to be the greenest-sounding brand on the shelf. We're focused on creating genuinely sustainable products that bring genuine joy. And because we believe in the power of shared knowledge, we're documenting what works, what doesn't, and what we're still figuring out.
We know we can’t fix everything. But we can make thoughtful, durable objects that feel good to own and don’t add to the growing pile of throwaway tech. We can challenge the way things are normally done - across design, supply chains, and storytelling. And we can be transparent about our process every step of the way.
Whether you’re here as a customer, collaborator, or fellow builder - we’re glad you found us. Let’s make better things together.
